MailFrontier Continues to Raise Awareness of Email Threats with Release of Field Guide to Phishing
The MailFrontier Field Guide to Phishing builds on the success of previous MailFrontier phishing education resources, such as the MailFrontier Phishing IQ Test™. More than 500,000 individuals have taken the Phishing IQ Test, which asks respondents to accurately identify a legitimate versus a fraudulent email. The average score of 75 percent indicates that one fourth of email users today still are unable to consistently distinguish between legitimate and phishing email. Although widespread consumer education is on the rise, there remains more to be done. There has been a lot of industry buzz about new and emerging phishing threats and the MailFrontier Field Guide to Phishing from MailFrontier sets the record straight. Focused on the techniques employed by email fraudsters today, the Field Guide to Phishing includes visual and descriptive explanations of the eight most common types of phish found today, as well as tips for email users to avoid falling victim to attack. For example, the “Angler phish,” one that lurks in deep waters utilizing a blue light it dangles in front of itself as bait to devour its prey, will typically announce that an email recipient is the winner of some sort of contest and then ask the recipient to provide sensitive personal information to claim the winnings. Email users should be aware of the false bait of the Angler phish. The MailFrontier Field Guide to Phishing also provides real-life email samples of the eight types of phish identified.
