Morningstar Selects MailFrontier to Block Unwanted Email Prior to the deployment of MailFrontier Gateway, spam accounted for a significant percent of Morningstar’s total inbound email volume, dramatically slowing performance of the firm’s email server. In addition, the daily spam volume impaired the productivity of the firm’s 820 email users. Morningstar researched leading anti-spam solutions, and selected MailFrontier based on its ease-of-use and effectiveness in stopping unwanted email. “We wanted an anti-spam solution that was simple to use, so our end users could manage their own email,” said John Tipton, director of IT for Morningstar, Inc. “The entire experience with MailFrontier reinforced the product’s ease-of-use. From the sales process through installation and ongoing administration, MailFrontier exceeded our expectations. While spam volume has continued to rise over the last year, with 85 percent of inbound email as spam, we remain unaffected due to MailFrontier’s effective detection of email threats.” During the evaluation period, a computer virus hit Morningstar and Tipton chose to immediately turn on the solution for the entire organization in the hopes of stopping the outbreak with MailFrontier’s analysis capabilities. MailFrontier provided an extra level of protection, blocking the virus and reducing the load on the company’s stand alone anti-virus solution. “While we needed a specific, cost-effective solution for spam, MailFrontier’s predictive statistical analysis capabilities helped us minimize virus problems too—a great added benefit,” says Tipton. Although Tipton’s initial focus was finding a solution to
stop spam, based on the effectiveness of MailFrontier in fighting
spam and viruses through predictive analysis, Morningstar has also
added MailFrontier Time Zero Virus Technology™, including signature-based
anti-virus engines from Kaspersky and McAfee. ### MailFrontier, MailFrontier Gateway and MailFrontier Time Zero Virus Technology are trademarks of MailFrontier, Inc. All other company and product names are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective holders.
