MailFrontier Gateway Appliance Supplies OfficeMax with Industry-Leading Email Security Protection PALO ALTO, Calif. - September 13, 2005 – MailFrontier™, the leader in email security, today announced OfficeMax Ò Incorporated, a leader in both business-to-business and retail office products distribution, has selected MailFrontier Gateway™ Appliance to prevent growing email threats, such as spam, phishing and directory harvest attacks, from reaching its corporate network. OfficeMax selected MailFrontier for its effectiveness, end-user experience and minimal administrative requirements. With more than 10,000 active email users at corporate offices and the company's retail stores across North America, OfficeMax's IT department was spending up to 60 hours a week battling the unwanted email that accounted for half of all inbound messages. Despite the huge administrative effort, employees were still complaining about receiving spam and finding important business emails were being blocked by the previous anti-spam solution. After reviewing leading vendors, OfficeMax found MailFrontier was the most effective email security solution for the diverse needs of the company's corporate and in-store users. “As a retailer, we have special email security and interface needs for our in-store employees,“ said Sean Power, IT security lead for OfficeMax. “It was critical to have an email security solution that allowed for user customization. We wanted to streamline the interface for our in-store employees, as well as have email transparency for all users with junk box summaries. Nothing compared with MailFrontier in the user experience department. MailFrontier is effectively blocking our unwanted email and users are very happy.“ As a high profile brand, OfficeMax is often the target of potentially debilitating threats, such as directory harvest and phishing attacks . The retailer experienced directory harvest attacks with millions of inbound messages a day, enough to bring any network down. OfficeMax is now using four MailFrontier Gateway Appliance M500s at the network perimeter to ensure dangerous and unwanted email doesn't reach corporate systems. The retailer uses MailFrontier appliances physically located in several geographies to process inbound email in a split configuration to block unwanted email at all the email entry points. This configuration provides OfficeMax's IT team with effortless control through a centralized administrative console for email quarantine, system management and reporting across their entire email network. “MailFrontier's integrated email security protection is able to handle both the volume and variety of email threats we face, eliminating problems in the internal mail environment. The MailFrontier appliances have reduced our overall expenditure on email security through ease-of-use and effectiveness, so administrative time is down to just a few minutes a week, mostly for reporting. MailFrontier is dramatically better than anything out there,“added Power. About MailFrontier ### MailFrontier and MailFrontier Gateway are trademarks of MailFrontier, Inc.
