MailFrontier to Unveil Phishing IQ Test II
at Inbox East
Will Today’s Email Technology Leaders Beat the National Average?
Palo Alto, Calif. – November 11, 2004 – MailFrontier™,
a pioneer in email security and leading provider of anti-spam
and anti-phishing solutions, and the Golden Group today announced
that the MailFrontier Phishing IQ Test II will be launched
next week at the INBOX East Conference being held in Atlanta,
November 17-19, 2004. Event attendees will have the unique
opportunity to take the test onsite at a show kiosk. MailFrontier
ResearchTM has found that 90 percent of respondents inaccurately
identify at least one of the test’s email samples, and
INBOX attendees will be put to the test to see if they can
better this national average.
Phishing is the most common type of fraudulent email today, and
the threat has grown beyond a consumer issue to an issue businesses
must address. In the three months since the initial release of the
phishing test, phishing email attacks have risen 50 percent each
month, according to MailFrontier Research. At the same time, email
fraudsters continue to develop new and increasingly complex techniques
to lure email users. In fact, MailFrontier Research has identified
more than 10 new phishing techniques since the launch of the initial
phishing test.
“Phishers have increased their sophistication and legitimate
email messages continue to employ techniques email users have been
educated to avoid,” said Anne Bonaparte, president and CEO
of MailFrontier. “We’ve compiled a fresh set of ten email
samples that are more challenging than the first test, and certainly
representative of the phishes being sent today. We encourage INBOX
attendees next week to test their phishing IQ and see if they can
beat the national average.”
To date, more than 225,000 people have taken the first version of
the MailFrontier Phishing IQ Test with an average score of 70 percent.
