MailFrontier Strengthens Enterprise Messaging
Security Arsenal with MailFrontier Enterprise Gateway 2.5
Newest Version of Award-Winning Product Provides the Right Email Threat
Protection at the Right Place in the Enterprise Palo Alto,
Calif., January 29, 2004 – MailFrontier, a pioneer in messaging
security, today unveiled MailFrontier Enterprise Gateway 2.5, the latest
version of its award-winning enterprise spam filtering solution. MailFrontier
Enterprise Gateway 2.5 represents a new level of capability in deflecting
threats to email, adding protection against directory harvest attacks
(DHAs) and dictionary attacks, as well as enabling enterprises to filter
email at the perimeter, while email quarantine and system management are
centralized within the corporate network. “MailFrontier
pioneered and delivered ground-breaking innovations, such as the multi-pronged
approach to spam filtering, user-centric filtering for each mailbox at
the gateway and customized email profiles for each enterprise,”
said Pavni Diwanji, CEO and co-founder of MailFrontier. “We designed
MailFrontier Enterprise Gateway 2.5 to provide protection against some
of the most insidious messaging threats while supporting even the most
data-intensive computing environments. With our new, patent-pending approaches
to DHAs and dictionary attacks, and a unique distributed architecture
that provides the right protection at the right place, we have raised
the bar for fulfilling the messaging security needs of large enterprises.”
Key new features of MailFrontier Enterprise Gateway 2.5 include:
• |
Prevents Directory Harvest Attacks: Directory Harvest Attacks
occur when a spammer contacts an email system to collect legitimate
corporate email addresses. This information enables spammers to
spoof the email address of one employee within a company and email
the rest – potentially asking for and obtaining sensitive
corporate information. Leveraging its seamless integration with
the corporate messaging directory, MailFrontier Enterprise Gateway
can be configured to give spammers no information about the validity
of an email address, which effectively shuts down their spam attacks. |
• |
Prevents Dictionary Attacks: Dictionary Attacks are a brute-force
technique whereby a spammer sends every possible letter and number
combination to guess the email addresses in a company. MailFrontier
Enterprise Gateway stops dictionary attacks at the perimeter and
avoids costly performance degradation by automatically deleting,
bouncing, or quarantining any incoming email addressed to invalid
email addresses. |
• |
Distributed Architecture: The MailFrontier distributed
architecture provides the right protection at the right place. The
MailFrontier Remote Analyzer filters email at the perimeter of the
corporation, while system management, reporting and a central email
quarantine reside inside the secure corporate network. For corporations
with multiple data centers, MailFrontier provides the first anti-spam
software to enable all employees to login to a single, centralized
quarantine server, while providing distributed filtering at the
perimeter of each data center. |
According to Gartner, in 2004 spam will comprise 55 percent of the average
enterprise mailbox, with an increasing amount of it carrying malicious
code and scams. Furthermore, Ferris Research has identified the cost of
spam to businesses worldwide at roughly $20 billion in 2003. Overall,
unwanted email results in lost productivity, increased storage and bandwidth
costs, corporate liability and threats to security and proprietary information.
