1. Why should I buy an appliance?
Appliances appeal to a large variety of datacenter operations because they are low risk, highly deployable, and cost effective solutions.

  • Security-- Security is a core requirement of appliances. The operating system has been hardened, optimized, and reduced to a single purpose solution. Though software-only solutions are also deployed on the network perimeter, these custom installations have to be hardened and tested. With MailFrontier Appliance, this process is eliminated.
  • Rapid Deployment – MailFrontier Gateway Appliances are deployed in minutes. There is no need to install a keyboard, monitor, or mouse.  Follow the “Read Me First” guide and in four simple steps, your MailFrontier Appliance is ready.
  • Single Purchase – Your MailFrontier Appliance is a single purchase covering all of your email security needs.
  • One Call Support – With just a single purchase for all of your email security needs, there is also only one support call to make. MailFrontier makes this enterprise solution easy and time saving by offering full support for the Appliance.

2. What are the appliance specifications?

  • MailFrontier Gateway Appliance M500 is built for small to medium enterprises.
  • MailFrontier Gateway Appliance M1000 is an enterprise solution for medium to large enterprises.

3. What is the underlying hardware and operating system (OS)?
MailFrontier Appliances are standardized on IBM xSeries hardware and run on an optimized and hardened Microsoft® Windows® 2003 server or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 operating system.

4. What is the extent of the OS hardening?
MailFrontier runs on a hardened version of Windows 2003 server or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 which operates as a single purpose OS. Traffic is restricted and all unnecessary ports and services have been shut down or closed.

5. How long should it take to configure and deploy?
MailFrontier Gateway Appliance can be installed in just minutes and configured in under an hour.

6. How do your appliances scale? Can I rack them together?
Yes. Whether you need a single appliance to handle all of your email security activities or you require high availability, failover, and load balancing, MailFrontier Gateway Appliance can scale to meet the size and performance requirements of your organization.  Multiple appliances give the flexibility to choose greater redundancy; separation between filtering and management; and decentralized, multi-machine arrangements. No special reconfiguration is required.

7. How do you service/support hardware failures?
Support Services for the Hardware consist of next business day on-site part replacement or shipment of replacement product within 24 hours of MailFrontier Support identification of hardware failure.
