MailFrontier Desktop Overview MailFrontier Desktop protects your individual inbox from spam and email fraud (phishing). Seamlessly integrated into Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express, MailFrontier Desktop uses an arsenal of techniques to eliminate spam and protect you from phishing, including a real time response network, statistical and heuristic filtering, automatically generated allowed (white) and blocked (black) lists, and optional email challenges. The online tutorial will walk you through using MailFrontier Desktop. Mail Filtering Settings MailFrontier Desktop allows you to customize the message filters to be more or less stringent. To change the filter settings, double-click on the MailFrontier Desktop “M” icon located in your system tray and select the Messages icon. Here you will see several scroll bars that allow you to determine how firm MailFrontier Desktop filtering rules will be for your overall email and for categories of email types. Configuring Challenges To configure challenges double click on the MailFrontier Desktop “M” icon located in your system tray and select the Challenges icon. You may specify how secure you want your MailFrontier Desktop to be. The three options are: 1) Always Send Challenges - Always send an Email Challenge to all unknown senders 2) Only Challenge Suspicious Mail - Only send an Email Challenge to a suspicious message 3) Never Send Challenges - MailFrontier Desktop will not send Email Challenges. You can choose the option to send Photo challenges or Permission Request (the permission request challenge option is only available in the registered version). You are able to add a personalized note to your challenges by clicking on the “Personalize” button. Disable / Enable MailFrontier Desktop If you wish to disable MailFrontier Desktop, all you have to do is right click on the red MailFrontier Desktop “M” icon located in your system tray and select “Disable MailFrontier Desktop.” To enable MailFrontier Desktop, follow the same process but this time select “Enable MailFrontier Desktop.” Wireless Configuration and Configuration of Mail Forwarding MailFrontier Desktop will forward filtered mail to your wireless device as long as your wireless device has a valid email address associated with it. Attachments will not be forwarded due to potential space constraints on your wireless device. To configure mail forwarding:
MailFrontier Junk Mail and MailFrontier Challenged Mail Folders All mail filtered by MailFrontier Desktop is sent to one of three folders: the MailFrontier Junk Mail folder, the MailFrontier Challenged Mail folder or the MailFrontier Phishing Mail folder. To view these folders, you must have your Folder List displayed. In Outlook, click on “View” then “Folder” list. In Outlook Express, click on “View”, “Layout”, then check the box next to Folder List. If you have accidentally deleted any of these folders, restart Outlook to get them back. You are able to set the number of days mail sits in both the MailFrontier Junk and Challenged folders Double click on the red MailFrontier Desktop “M” icon located in your system tray (bottom right of screen). Click on the “Settings” option. Here you will see the Junk Folder Settings field that allows you to determine the number of days mail remains in the folders before being sent to your Deleted Items folder. The default for both folders is 180 days with a range of 1 – 10000 days for the MailFrontier Junk Mail folder and a range of 7 – 10000 days for the MailFrontier Challenged Mail folder.
